HEADLINE NEWS: Pierce Crowned!

No, I didn't get knocked in the head by an irate reader!  I don't doubt but what my blog subjects from time-to-time may give them such a thought.

I keep track of the happenings in my home town, Point Pleasant, WV, by reading the e-edition of a local newspaper, "The Point Pleasant Register".  I read the news, obits and the game results of the Point Pleasant Big Blacks, my old high school football team.

POINT PLEASANT WV, "LAND THAT I LOVE"
The first headline in today's edition?

PIERCE CROWNED 2011 MISS MOTHMAN FESTIVAL QUEEN.
THE MOTHMAN
Point Pleasant is the location of the supposed appearance of the moth-like creature that inspired the movie and tv series.  It is a big deal in Point Pleasant where there are even mothman statuary and a mothman park.  It is a money maker, desperately needed in this area of perpetual poverty.  The festival celebrates the event.

THE MOTHMAN FESTIVAL QUEEN AND HER COURT
The Queen, Haley Pierce, is the small girl in white, in the middle

A total of 100 contestants competed over the weekend in the Fourth Annual Miss Mothman Festival Pagents.  The two day pageant crowned Haley Pierce the Queen of the Festival.

I deeply regret that I do not know Haley well, haven't seen her since she was a little girl.  She is the daughter of my grand nephew, Jamie Pierce.  A child's character is formed in the first years of their life.  Jamie's character was formed by my Mother, who daily kept him for his mother until Jamie was about three.  It shows.  Today Jamie Pierce is a good man.

It is good to know that the Pierce good looks have been successfully passed down from mine to four more generations.

I KNOW, I KNOW!  BUT IT'S MY BLOG AND I GET TO TELL IT MY WAY, SO THERE!

Uh, the good looks may have skipped a generation with Hallie's grandfather, Jim Pierce.  He is too ornery to be good looking, at least thats the way I see it.  Thats why he has been my favorite nephew since his birth on the 4th of July, in 1945 I think.

Although we are truly "Going down the valley, one by one" I love my family, all of them.

God bless you and yours.
