THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA: Sooner Rather Than Later!

MARILYN HAWK ON A SHARED VACATION IN THE OUTER BANKS, NC
She was with the family when I wrote my first blog in 2009
Today a good friend passed away.  As always, it is a very sad thing for her very large family and many, many friends.

I knew this lady.  She lived a long, enjoyable life.  She made a difference in the lives of others.  She served her community, she assisted her children and grandchildren and she had fun.  I loved to dance with her, she put her all into it.  I said it was like dancing with a cheerleader.  She informed me she had been a cheerleader in high school.  It showed.  She was my daughter-in-law, Mary Kay's mother.  We'll all miss Marilyn Hawk.

Her passing was peaceful.  That is as much as we can ask for ourselves.  The important thing, in my opinion, is not how we die but how, and if, we live.  Frequently in my blogs I encourage my readers to plan, act and enjoy life.  Life can, and will, be filled with difficulties.  For the time being, I cannot put pictures on my blog.  BUT THIS TOO, ALONG WITH ALL LIFE'S PROBLEMS, SHALL PASS. (As you can now see, it has.)

As a favorite poem says:
"Tis the set of the sails, and not the gales that determines which way she goes".
Why not set your sails for the good life?

"As a man thinketh in his heart, so he is"
Proverbs 23:7

"The discipline of writing something down
is the first step toward making it happen"
Lee Iacocca

"I must dream of the things I am seeking"
The "Sound of Music" movie

"I have learned that if one advances in the direction of his dreams,
and endeavors to live the life he has imagined,
he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours"
Henry David Thoreau

"If nothing is ventured, nothing is gained"
Sir John Heywood

"Only I can change my life.  No one can do it for me"
Carol Burnett

"All our dreams can come true,if we have the courage to pursue them...
If you can dream it, you can do it."
Walt Disney

"Whatever you can do or dream, you can begin it.
Boldness has genius, magic and pose in it
Begin it now"
Goethe

"Climb every mountain, search high and low...
Follow every rainbow til you find your dream"
The "Sound of Music" movie
Planning to write this blog, I asked our housekeeper, a delightful young lady, "Donna, what three new, different and exciting things do you have planned for next year?"  She thought for a moment and said "Nothing".  I assured her she was just like the majority of people.

At a motivational seminar once, the group was given a sheet of yellow, legal paper and instructed to write down their future plans.  After a very few minutes,  my son, Mark, asked for another sheet of paper. He was told to "turn it over and write on the back side".  He replied, "I have already done that."  Yes, I had "rubbed off on Mark" as I have the rest of my family.  It shows in their life.

Kimberly and her son, Riley, was just down to Ohio State for the game with Penn.  Last year my son, Todd, and his wife, Amy, again made a cross country ride on their bikes, riding in three states.  I started to have this "new , different and exciting" talk with my kids when they were hours old, yep, hours old.  I consider it that important

THE GREAT WALL OF CHINA
.    Do you know what prompted this blog subject?
There was a picture of the Great Wall of China on the internet  today.

This 5,500 mile long defensive wall was built in the Qin Dynasty and is one of the world's most famous landmarks.  The article pointed out that just 90KM outside of Beijing, at Mutianyu, one could enjoy a fantastic view of the wall, in the country, outside of the crowded tourist area of Badaling.  I promptly made a note of this on my plans for a Round-the-World trip.  I fully expect to have this experience, the good Lord willing and the krick don't get too high.

The one rule I have in life has never been more true!

IF YOU PLAN SOMETHING, IT MAY NOT HAPPEN
IF YOU DON'T PLAN IT, IT SURELY WILL NOT HAPPEN!

PLAN SOMETHING!

What are you planning that is new, different and exciting?
I'd love to know.
