I'M IN THE JAIL HOUSE NOW: It Ain't Too Bad!

I'm not really in jail but that's the way the old song used to go.

The United States has 5% of the world's population but 25% of the incarcerated people in the world.  Chicago and Cook County is larger than 29 states.  Cook County jails have a daily population of 9,000 to 11,000 people a day.    The recidivism in their prison is over half.  Why is that?  Take a look at their prison.

COOK COUNTY JAIL

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

COOK COUNTY JAIL CELL
A study tracked 272,111 immates following their release from prison in 15 states.  Fifty-two percent were returned to prison for another crime.  For those under 18 year-of-age, 80% were arrested again.  With prisons like Cook County, what's so bad about being in jail?
PRISON IN WV WHERE MARTHA STEWARD SERVED HER TIME
Even the "Country Club" prison Martha Steward was in, (and I didn't think she should have been in prison, period), didn't compare to the Cook County Prison.

AMERICAN PRISONS ARE REVOLVING DOORS BUT WITH FACILITIES LIKE THESE, IS THAT ANY WONDER?

JOE ARPAIO, SHERIFF OF MARICOPA COUNTY, ARIZONA
Joe Arpaio, born on June 14, 1932 in Springfield, Massachusetts, is Sheriff of Maricopa County, Arizona.  He has the 3rd largest sheriff's office in the nation with 3,400 deputies.   Sheriff Apario houses his immates in used army tents he placed out in the Arizona dessert.

ON PARADE, CHAINED TOGETHER, IN STRIPES AND PINK UNDIES
He puts the immates in stripped suits with pink ladies underwear.  He feeds them on $0.20 per meal.  When "tree huggers" complain to him about the dessert heat Sheriff Arpaio reminds them that our troops in Iraq are in even higher heat clothed in battle dress.  He saved the tax payers $150,000 a year when he stopped serving coffee and another half a million dollars when he started to serve bologna.  There is no tobacco, books, phones or television.

WOMEN PRISONERS ON A CHAINED WORK GANG

Needless to say, he has lots of enemies.  Drug cartels have a one million price tag on his head.  A recall effort was made but failed.  The people of his county love him, he received 83% of their vote.  He has 2,500 volunteers to assist him as and when needed.

I WOULD BE EVEN TOUGHER THAN SHERIFF ARPAIO.
I'd build a boot camp prison in deep snow country.  The first thing I'd do would be to lay out a cemetary, explaining that probably a fourth would never leave the prison alive.  I'd dress them in minimum black clothing and shave their heads.  I'd make them cut wood to keep warm.  I'd give them only cold water and an out door toilet.  I'd feed them the minimum required to keep them alive, and feed them the same every day.  I would not fence them in.  If they excaped, I'd hunt them down on the snow, with a helicopter, shoot them and leave them where they lay.  No papers, no books, no television, not even a clock or a calendar.  It's a prison not a summer camp.  If they didn't work, I wouldn't feed them.  If they rioted, I call it insurrection and shoot them.

I'd send every first offender to this boot camp prison for a year, and return them to a Sheriff Arpaio-type prison.

CRUEL AND UNUSUAL PUNISHMENT?

Compared to what?  The rape of a small child?  The murder of a husband, rape of mother and daughter and setting them on fire?  UH, not to my way of thinking!

I'D BET THE RECIVIDISM RATE WOULD DROP.

YES, YES!  WHAT DO I KNOW, HUH?  Bet I could make people think twice before they molested some little girl or murdered her parents.

Are you among the 83% who agrees with Sheriff Arpaio?
I'd like to know?
