OH! FOR THE LIFE OF A SHANTY BOAT MAN: A Poem

SHANTY BOAT MAN
by W. J. Devine

Oh! for the life of a shantyboat man
Who lives each day without purpose or plan.
For him not the worries, the trials the cares-
The pressures of business, the pitfalls and snares.

No problems of profit, no quotas to meet-
No meetings, no speeches, no deadlines to beat;
Tied up to a tree at the edge of a stream,
His is the carefree life that most of us dream.

Oh! for the life of a shantyboat man
Just doing the least that he possibly can-
He floats down the current--the river's his life--
A dog, an old stove, and yes, maybe a wife;
Some canned goods, some books--
a philosopher he--
Content to live simply--just letting things be.

Oh! for the life of a shantyboat man.
A SMALL, MODERN-DAY, SHANTY BOAT ON PONTOONS
I'm ready!
My shantyboat goals this month?
Determine the supplies that are needed to start building.
Check my blog in December for details.

Are you one of the people reading my shantyboat blogs?
What, if any, shantyboat plans do you have?
What shantyboat dreams do you dream?

I'd love to know
