THE AMERICAN CHARACTER: Captured by Norman Rockwell

Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom   Wisdom

YOUR PERSONAL GPS
You might find your life's destination better if you remember
CHARACTER IS LIKE A TREE AND REPUTATION LIKE A SHADOW.
THE SHADOW IS WHAT WE THINK OF IT:
THE TREE IS THE REAL THING -Abraham Lincoln

AMERICA WILL NEVER BE DESTROYED FROM THE OUTSIDE.
IF WE FALTER AND LOSE OUR FREEDOM,
IT WILL BE BECAUSE WE DESTROYED OURSELVES - Abraham Lincoln

Norman Percevel Rockwell,1894-1978, painted Americans.  He did not paint their physical likeness, more importantly, he painted their spirit and character.

Rockwell painted what it meant to be an American.

He certainly captured who and what I am.

What does Washington and Lincoln say about America?

FIREARMS ARE SECOND ONLY TO THE CONSTITUTION IN IMPORTANCE;
THEY ARE THE PEOPLE'S LIBERTY TEETH - George Washington

I am certain that when I was a wee lad, Mother Nature whispered into my ear, telling me what I was to be as an American.

She told me first and foremost, that I was to choose the road less traveled.

She told me that I was to be honest and honorable.

She told me that I was to love and in return would be loved.

She told me that I might know fear but that I was never to be afraid.

In my heart I believe I have become that person.

HAPPINESS AND MORAL DUTY ARE INSEPARABLE CONNECTED
George Washington

I lived alone when I went to high school, living on $10 a week.  My apartment took $5 of that sum.

At age 16 and a high school senior, I lied about my age and joined the WV National Guard for the $18 a month pay.

At 17, I joined the Navy and saw the world, really!  I'm out of the navy but I'm still seeing the world.

Walking in off the street for an hourly job, I became the top manager in a tire plant, Manager of Tire Production.

Caught in a plant closure, I became a Stock Broker and retired a Vice President.

LABOR TO KEEP ALIVE IN YOUR BREAST THAT LITTLE SPARK
OF CELESTIAL FIRE CALLED CONSCIENCE - Geo. Washington

Today I have a marvelous family, a loving wife, two sons, a daughter, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

The first Sunday after my children were born, they went to church.  They still go to church.

The children, and all the grandchildren, except the two youngest, have college degrees, several have graduate degrees.

IT IS BETTER TO BE ALONE THAN IN BAD COMPANY  - Geo. Washington

I served my country for 4 years, 9 months and 17 days
I have been a scout and church leader
I have served the community as a Rotarian
I have been in all the states except Alaska
I have traveled to 23 foreign counties
I've hiked the Appalachian Trail and Ireland's west coast
I have sailed the world's seas and oceans
I have boated on America's lakes and rivers
I've made canoe expeditions into North American Wilderness
I have gone to school all my life, I still go to school
I have a Jug Band, I call square dances
I have been on National Television a number of times
I've been a certified United Methodist Lay Speaker
I speak to groups, telling stories and poetry
I write a blog read by thousands around the world

I'M PROUD TO BE AN AMERICAN AS VIEWED BY ROCKWELL

IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GOVERN A NATION WITHOUT GOD AND THE BIBLE
George Washington

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS

GOD BLESS THE USA

And he's not done yet, folks! I can't wait to read the next chapter in Walsine's life story.
