GRANDPARENT'S DAY: Seen My Duty And I Done It!

The Good Life  The Good Life  The Good Life  The Good Life

HIDE NOT YOUR TALENTS. WHAT'S A SUN DIAL IN THE SHADE?  Franklin

When this young man's mother was in kindergarden I started to attend Grand Parent's day.  Now, nine grand children later, I have attended my last.  Delaney Rose Pierce Boggs, my youngest grandchild, will be in High School next year.

Walt and Delaney

Rosebud and I have always been special friends.  I am her only grandparent to have made every grandparent's day.  Thursday I'll attend her "Graduation Day".  Why do I do this?  Because my children and their children and their children's children, my family, is my greatest treasure in life.  I'm simply "taking care of business".

BLESSED ARE THE YOUTH FOR THEY SHALL INHERIT THE NATIONAL DEBT

My daughter, Kimberly, and her husband, Jack, have paid more each year than what I make in a year to send Delaney and her brother, Riley, to one of the best private schools in the country.  I say this having met their teachers, sat through their classes, listened to classes spoken only in French--they know four languages--and observed their art work.  They have the basic foundation for higher learning.

MOST GRANDFATHERS HAVE A TOUCH OF THE SCALLYWAG - Helen Thompson

Although a first impression of Rosebud may be that she is reserved and shy.  She is anything but.  She has competed all her life, and done so successfully.  In track she achieved wins against girls older and twice her size.  Her mother explained to Delaney, however, that due to her very small size, she could not run hurtles.  Even Kimberly was amazed when the coach told her that only three girls cleared all the hurtles, Delaney and two others.  That in a nut shell is Delaney Rose Pierce Boggs.

WHEN GRANDPA ENTERS THE DOOR, DISCIPLINE FLIES OUT THE WINDOW

I taught Rosebud and her brother to dance when they were quite young.  Although just little "fellows" they could do the Virginia Reel as well as the adults.  Having a grandfather who was a square dance caller, they went to a lot of hoedowns.  Their dance instructor at school was amazed to learn that Rosebud knew the reel better than she did.

YOU HAVE TO DO YOUR OWN GROWING UP
NO MATTER HOW TALL YOUR GRANDFATHER WAS

ROSEBUD AND JULIE
As close as Rosebud and I are, she is even a closer friend to my wife Julie, who has been teaching her to sew over the winter.  They text daily.  They go to shows.  From time-to-time, I have always taken Rosebud to the Cracker Barrel.  On an almost weekly basis, however, she and her Nana go to either the Olive Garden or Panera's.  They follow the same shows on TV and argue over who does what to whom and what should happen next.  Such a close relationship couldn't happen to two finer people.

MY GRAND KIDS BELIEVE I'M THE OLDEST THING IN THE WORLD.
AFTER TWO OR THREE HOURS PLAYING WITH THEM, I AGREE

Delaney will be a freshman next year at the Jackson Township High School, home of the Polar Bears. Rated in the top 3% of all U. S. high schools, the school campus exceeds that of many colleges.  A school within a school, Jackson School for the Arts, (JSA), is a rigorous academic curriculum with emphasis on the arts in which Delaney will be a student, akin to honors classes in college.

I HAVE A WARM FEELING AFTER PLAYING WITH MY GRAND CHILDREN. IT'S THE LINIMENT WORKING

Rosebud, the Good Witch
Although it is a public school, Delaney had to apply to JSA with a letter of recommendation, complete an application and pass a personal interview.  She will be required to maintain a 4 year grade point average of 3.0 or higher, start classes one hour early and maintain near perfect attendance.  This was her choice, not her parents.  Over the 4 year period she will be exposed to all art forms, eventually narrowing her focus to a single area of concentration.  Admission of JSA students to the college of their choice is a given.  The "best" of today's youth are the best ever, America's hope for the future.

One of the most powerful handclasps is that of a new grand baby around the finger of grandpa

Today was "Recognition Day" and this is a picture of Rosebud and her friend, Taylor, at the event.  They have been friends since preschool.  Taylor is small, Rosebud is tiny!  What happens at "Recognition Day"?  Well, at least one mom went through a box of tissues, per my daughter, Kimberly.  The school showed films and pictures of the graduates accomplishments.

MAY GOD BLESS ROSEBUD

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS

MAY GOD BLESS THE USA
