THERE IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN BUT THERE LOTS OF OLD THINGS THAT WE DON'T KNOW - Ambrose Bierce

Jackie Kay
To repay her Mom for some small favor, Jacky and her husband, Kent, invited Julie and I as their guests to a "WING IT AND SING IT NIGHT" at the BLOCK 7 BAR AND GRILL. It was Karaoke singing night and wings for only 49 cents. While I love wings, and eat more than my share, the Karaoke singing was a new experience.  But, one thing was right!  The food had that "FREE TASTE" which I have learned to love.  Thanks Jackie and Kent.

DO ONE THING EVERY DAY THAT SCARES YOU - Eleanor Roosevelt

Friday night is "Fish Night". Two extremely large pieces of fish, cole slaw and a heaping plate of french fries for five dollars.  We always order a table full of appetizers, Sour Kraut Balls, Grilled Pickles, Mushrooms, and on and on and on.  We have become regulars, which makes us"BLOCKERS". Although I am old, this was an easy lesson to learn.

IT IS ALWAYS IN SEASON FOR OLD MEN TO LEARN - Aeschylus 525-546BC

It is a bar, however, and Julie and I don't normally go to bars, not being drinkers. There is nothing more awkward than a sober man with a bunch of drunks.  The atmosphere in this bar, however, is quite congenial. Even with the karaoke singing, it is not noisy.  It was first built as "HENRY'S BANK CAFE" in 1932 and has had many names since.  Our dining group ate there awhile back when it was called "DAVID B'S.  In addition to the bar and dining room, there is a large room for big groups, with a small bar, and a large room upstairs with a dance floor.  They have live bands and dancing on Friday and Saturday nights.

THE WORSE OUTCOME OF NOT TRYING IS TO NEVER GET TO FAIL- P. Smith

Reuben Sandwich with sour kraut balls
We have tried out other items on their large menu.  Food is obviously an important part of their business.  Last night Julie and Donna, our house keeper, had a steak sandwich. I like Reuben sandwiches.  Next to Julie's, their's are the best.

THE COOLEST THINGS IN LIFE ARE THINGS THAT YOU HAVE NOT DONE. THAT'S THE KEY TO LIFE - Afrojack

Margie, singer & dancer
Becoming "BLOCKERS", we are becoming acquainted.  Recently, a man I didn't recall, turned around at the bar, shook my hand, calling me Mr. Pierce, asking how I was.  We met Kathy, a neighbor, and a karaoke singer.  We met our mechanic, Robby, who it turns out is also a singer.  A new acquaintance, Margie, is a singer. She is the leader of a group of about a dozen singers.  She is a very pleasant person who dresses for the occasion.  She started out showing two ladies how to line dance and in a moment had two lines of dancers.  It was very enjoyable to watch.  All the singers are good, some very good.  Cliff, the karaoke man, plays one or two of the old songs for me.

DO WHAT YOU CAN, WITH WHAT YOU HAVE, WHERE YOU CAN - T. Roosvelt

Beth
Including my Navy days, I have been in bars around the world, Japan to Portugal, the Phillippines to Irish pubs but this is the first bar where I have been kissed by the servers.  In this case, it is Julie's grand daughter Beth who is a waitress.  She let's everyone know that "This is my grandpa".  Jackie, her mother, told us the bad news.  She started out tipping Beth ten dollars and that has become her standard.  Oh, Well!  Helping children and grand children is what my life is all about.

AN OLD DOG LIVES LONGER WHEN HE LEARNS NEW TRICKS

Have a date night with your sweetie.  Don't let the good life pass you by.  Try something new. In Barberton, try BLOCK 7 on "WING AND SING" night and I'll look for you.

GOD BLESS YOU AND YOURS
