GROWING OLD:  Better Than Not!

WISDOM   WISDOM   WISDOM   WISDOM   WISDOM   WISDOM   WISDOM

You might find your life's destination better if you remember
FIRST YOU FORGET NAMES, THEN YOU FORGET FACES, THEN YOU FORGET TO PULL YOUR ZIPPER UP, THEN YOU FORGET TO PULL YOUR ZIPPER DOWN

MEN DO NOT QUIT PLAYING BECAUSE THEY GROW OLD; THEY GROW OLD BECAUSE THEY QUIT PLAYING - Oliver Wendell Holmes

Am I old?  Yes, I was born on 3-31-31.  The question was, am I old?  Depends how you measure old.  The condition of one's body?  I am ancient.  Outlook on life?  I am just a teeny-bopper.  Memory?  Although I may not recall where I left my glasses, I recall exact statements.  In that, I am still young.

GROWING OLD IS MANDATORY, GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL - Chili Davis

"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn"!  I was 8-years-old and school was dismissed for a matinee of GONE WITH THE WIND.  It cost a nickle and I embarrassed my Dad asking for a nickle which in 1939 he didn't have. That nearly got me a beating.  My brother Henry gave me the nickle.  I still recall Brett explaining life to Scarlet.

MIDDLE AGE IS WHEN AGE STARTS TO SHOW AROUND YOUR MIDDLE - Bob Hope

"I think you need a bigger boat".  Jaws had just bitten off the stern of the fishing boat.  My sailboat, the Christy Anne, will be one of the smallest boats sailing the Great Loop around the eastern USA.  Other loopers may also think I need a bigger boat.

NONE ARE SO OLD AS THOSE WHO HAVE OUTLIVED ENTHUSIASM - Thoreau

"You can't handle the truth"!  I recall so well this powerful court scene in the movie A FEW GOOD MEN.  I really enjoyed the movie which had a sad ending as the two marines avoided going to prison but were given a bad discharge from the Marines. Uh, that is assuming there is such a thing as a "bad" separation from being a "Jar head", so says the sailor in me.

MIDDLE AGE IS WHEN YOU CHOOSE YOUR CEREAL FOR THE FIBER, NOT THE TOY

I have a vivid memory of reporting for duty aboard the USS INTREPID CV11. I had served aboard a little sea going tug for years.  As part of a skeleton crew, we sailed the "Decrepit Intrepid", still partly in moth balls, through the Panama Canal, to the Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard for a two year renovation.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO HAVE A TWINKLE IN YOUR WRINKLE.

Yes, the body is old.  But we are mind, body and spirit.  There is much more to consider than just the years. My plans?  To live to dance at my grand daughter Rosebud's wedding.  Her dad says she can't start dating until she is 35, she is 13.  Hmmm!  Several parts of my body has failed already.  But, not my mind and not my spirit.  If two thirds of me still works, I'll take that.

THEY ARE NOT GREY HAIRS, THEY ARE WISDOM HIGH LIGHTS.

THANK GOD FOR LIFE EIGHT YEARS BEYOND MY LIFE EXPECTANCY

THANK GOD FOR YOU AND YOURS

GOD BLESS THE USA
